The End of the Affair (1999)

bulletInformation at Internet Movie Database
bullet Looking Closer, review by Jeffrey Overstreet, "searching for truth, beauty and meaning in the movies."
bulletHollywood Jesus visual review.
bullet "The End of the Affair: The Artist and the Art Work," Steve Lansingh, TheFilmForum: Christian Conversation about the Movies.
bullet Review, Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, Spirituality & Health - Spiritual Practices for Human Being.
bulletThemes
bulletCovenant
bulletPrayer and a corresponding vow made to God are central elements in the story of the currently playing "End of the Affair." (submitted by Lynn Mason)
bulletFaith, Love
bulletI think this is an important, even astonishing, film that deals with issues of faith and love (and atheism) in a profound and moving way. It's also very sensual but in a humane (not Hollywood) sense. (submitted by Lynn Mason)
bulletHealing, Miracles
bulletSarah clearly believed in miracles but while she could heal others she couldn't, or wouldn't save herself. I enjoyed the way the same scene was shown from the perspective of different characters, especially the scene where Maurice appears, Lazarus like, in the doorway after Sarah makes her promise to God. (submitted by Mike Clark, Hamilton, Canada.)
bulletPrayer
bulletPrayer and a corresponding vow made to God are central elements in the story of the currently playing "End of the Affair." "Be careful what you pray for -- you may get it!" (submitted by Lynn Mason)
bulletRepentance
bulletSarah promises God that she will leave her lover if he survives. She does not repent of the love, but rather of the way she wants to express it.
