    • From Matthew Henry's Commentary.
      • "From the doctrine of Christ's second coming, we are exhorted to purity and godliness."
    • From Wesley's Notes.
      • "In a word, with God time passes neither slower nor swifter than is suitable to him and his economy; nor can there be any reason why it should be necessary for him either to delay or hasten the end of all things. How can we comprehend this? If we could comprehend it, St. Peter needed not to have added, with the Lord."
    • From the Commentary on the Whole Bible (Jamieson, Fausset and Brown, 1871).
      • "God's œonologe (eternal-ages measurer) differs wholly from man's horologe (hour-glass). His gnomon (dial-pointer) shows all the hours at once in the greatest activity and in perfect repose. To Him the hours pass away, neither more slowly, nor more quickly, than befits His economy. There is nothing to make Him need either to hasten or delay the end. The words, "with the Lord" (Ps 90:4, "In Thy sight"), silence all man's objections on the ground of his incapability of understanding this [BENGEL]."
    • From The People's New Testament, B.W. Johnson, 1891.
      • "Since we have no abiding home on this earth and seek one beyond, we should live in a state of preparation."

      • "Part of our task is to transpose the eagerness and urgency from the cosmological speculation to the register of human need and the state of the present world and its future."
    • "The Day of the Lord," Rev. Bryan Findlayson, Lectionary Bible Studies and Sermons, Pumpkin Cottage Ministry Resources. Includes detailed textual notes.
    • "Regarding the Patience of the Lord as Salvation," analysis and reflections by Steven C. Kuhl in Sabbatheology by The Crossings Community of St Louis.
      • "How could these people have come to doubt their need for repentance and forgiveness?"
    • "Live for God's Tomorrow," Larry Broding's Word-Sunday.Com: A Catholic Resource for This Sunday's Gospel.
      • "Choose one or two ways to change this week, as you prepare for the coming of the Lord in this holiday season."
  • Articles & Background:
    • "A Brief Note on a Textual Problem in 2 Peter 3:10," by Daniel B. Wallace of Dallas Theological Seminary.
      • One of the most difficult textual problems in the NT is found in 2 Peter 3:10. The reading euJreqhvsetai (“will be found” or, as the NET Bible reads it, “will be laid bare”), which enjoys by far the earliest and best support (• B K P 1241 1739text et alii) is nevertheless so difficult a reading that many scholars regard it as nonsensical. Indeed, several translations adopt a different reading often because of the difficulty of this one: KJV and ASV have “shall be burned up”; NASB and NJB have “will be burned up.”"
